The faster, the better: How to accelerate photonic computing to meet the requirements of optical transmission systems

Photonic reservoir computing is an information processing technique that uses the dynamical response of semiconductor lasers to injected data to perform complex computations. Depending on the task, this approach might offer several benefits over traditional electronic computing, including faster processing speed, greater energy efficiency, and improved performance.

Here, we will focus on the application of photonic reservoir computing in the real-world task of optical signal recovery and time series prediction. Based on numerical and experimental results, we demonstrate how bandwidth enhancement can be leveraged to further increase processing speed.
