In my PhD project, we coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) via diffraction in an external cavity and achieved simultaneous injection locking of all these VCSELs to an external drive laser. Finally, we used said system as a reservoir computer and evaluated its performance on basic benchmark tasks.
Currently, I am working on two approaches to brain-inspired computing in the project "ADaptive OPtical Dendrites (ADOPD)". One is based on exploiting the modal dispersion in step-index few-mode and multimode fibers for ultra-fast optical header recognition. In the other one, we use single-mode fibers and semiconductor optical amplifiers to create artificial dendritic branches with plasticity.
